CHIEF DAVID OGBA (BOURDEX) AND THE POLITICS OF SELF-DELUSION

*CHIEF DAVID OGBA (BOURDEX) AND THE POLITICS OF SELF-DELUSION*

✍️ _:Hon. Chief Alaezi Onyekwere John._

There comes a time in politics when silence is no longer golden, especially when people begin to mistake wishful thinking for public declaration. Chief Ogba, famously known as Bourdex, recently made a statement that the Abia North senatorial seat will "shift to Ohafia" by 2027. He didn’t stop there, he went further to declare that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu would not return to the Senate, no matter the circumstance.

Now, let's take a moment and truly assess the weight of that statement. For a man whose influence barely goes beyond the boundaries of Abiriba, one would expect a bit more humility in political utterances.

This is a man whose only known public office was at the local government level. Ironically, instead of aspiring for something greater, he proudly wears the title of “local government chairman” as if it is a national medal of honour. That, in itself, is where his political relevance ends. You cannot climb a mountain with the mindset of someone stuck in a pit.

Politics is not about radio waves or empty declarations; it’s about real connections, visible contributions, and measurable impact. Apart from his personal media platform and former local position, Bourdex remains a stranger to the larger political family in Abia North.

In fact, let’s be blunt:

What does he represent outside Ohafia?

What can he point at as his legacy?

Which of the LGAs in Abia North can claim they’ve benefited from his ideas or leadership?

Power is not handed to those who make noise from a distance. Power is earned through service, visibility, and consistency.

Chief Bourdex seems to forget that political ambition without structure is just noise, and right now, the only thing his statement achieved was turning a once-respected name into a trending joke.

Before anyone makes sweeping pronouncements about zoning or who returns to the Senate, let them first show their political receipts across the entire zone, not just in their compound.

Let him move beyond the fence of Abiriba before attempting to bulldoze the legacy of a man like Orji Uzor Kalu whose political reach, experience, and track record are not in doubt.

For now, Chief Bourdex can continue with his soundbites. But those of us who understand how politics works will continue watching, because when ambition outweighs capacity, comedy becomes inevitable.
