JUBILATION AS IMO STATE GOVERNMENT COMMENCES PAYMENT OF ₦104,000 MINIMUM WAGE.
The Imo State Government has officially commenced payment of the new ₦104,000 minimum wage to civil servants, fulfilling Governor Hope Uzodimma’s earlier commitment to enhance workers’ welfare through an upward review of salaries.
According to Nigeria News Channel, state employees have begun receiving credit alerts reflecting the new wage structure, sparking widespread jubilation and appreciation across the state’s workforce.
Governor Hope Uzodimma had earlier approved a comprehensive salary structure that includes ₦104,000 as the minimum wage for new government workers, ₦513,000 for medical doctors, and ₦220,000 as the entry-level salary for lecturers in state-owned tertiary institutions.
With this implementation, Imo State now leads the nation in public sector remuneration, surpassing the new national minimum wage benchmark of ₦70,000. Lagos State follows with ₦88,000, Rivers State with ₦85,000, while Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa States each offer ₦80,000.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Prince Eze Ugochukwu, and made available to the press on Sunday, the new wage policy is described as a transformative step aimed at strengthening the state’s economy and improving the living standards of workers.
“Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration is pioneering this significant policy shift, which is expected to yield substantial economic and social benefits for Imo State,” Ugochukwu stated. “The essence of this wage increase is to enhance workers’ purchasing power, enabling them to better meet their needs and contribute more meaningfully to the state’s economy through increased spending on goods and services.”
He further emphasized that the ripple effects of the policy will stimulate local businesses, boost productivity, and invigorate economic activities across the state.
The Imo State Government reiterated that the wage review underscores its unwavering commitment to promoting the welfare of civil servants while driving sustainable economic growth and development in the state.
